In Ensaios sobre escalas we seek to develop a set of drawings that are essentially ambiguous as to their scale, may be registered between the infinitely small and the infinitely large. It was through the use of the circle, systematically repeated in the various drawings of the project, that these two distant dimensions were brought together. Attempts to represent the tiniest thing were made by repeating parallel lines, equidistant from each other both vertically and horizontally, until it was no longer possible to reduce the proximity between them. The exercise of reducing the blank spaces between the lines leads to several squared grids which, sometimes in white or graphite, fill the entire area of the paper on which they are inscribed. Through the points where these lines intersect, from the center to the edge of the sheet, small holes no wider than a sewing needle coincide, until a circle of light radiates inside the drawing.

As the circle gets larger, graphite powder marks the enlargement movement of the circular form: the drawing that previously sought to represent the tiniest, through the reduction of open spaces, becomes a tool for the representation of the immense, through the multiplication of light entrances.
